THE HOLIDAYS NEW YORK CHAPTER, INCORPORATED

HISTORY

In November 1989 a social group of friends who wanted to play bridge in a non-threatening, non-pressuring atmosphere decided to organize formally into a club and play bridge monthly.  They called their newly formed group “The New Yorkers Bridge Club”.

Shortly after forming their bridge club, the group became aware of the Holidays, Incorporated their objectives, programs and benefits.  They felt that membership in the Holidays; incorporated would be an excellent opportunity to formalize their group.  The prospect of membership in a national organization gave them a sense of purpose and increased their interest in improving their bridge game.

The New Yorkers made known to the Baltimore Chapter their interest in becoming affiliated with the Holidays, Incorporated.   On September 25, 1990, the club received a letter from The Holidays Incorporated informing them that their application for membership in the national organization had been approved.

On April 27, 1991 “The New Yorkers Bridge Club” was installed into the Holidays, Incorporated.   The Baltimore Chapter of the Holidays, Incorporated were pleased to share with them on their day of installation.

The members of the New York Chapter celebrated their installation day at The Island Inn, in Westbury, Long Island.  The celebration included a continental breakfast, installation ceremony, luncheon and bridge.  After a little rest and relaxation, a soiree was held at the home of Constance Batty.

At the end of the day, The New York Holidays acknowledged with heartfelt appreciate all of the Holidays and Labordays who participated in their installation day festivities.

THE CHAPTER TODAY

The spirit of the founding members lives on in the chapter today.  We are ten members strong who meet monthly September – June to play bridge.

In an effort to promote the game of bridge in the community we host an annual Bridge Luncheon.  To stir up the competitive spirit of our guests we give monetary prizes to the top three scorers.

During the Christmas holiday season we always come together for a time of celebration.  For Christmas 2010, we went into New York City to see an Alvin Ailey show, the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Centre and to have dinner.

We a proud to be members of the Holidays, Incorporated!
